The Youth Digital Volunteer Engagement Program is a unique initiative, which provides participating youth with an opportunity to develop fun and creative online programming to share with Harbourfront Centre’s Camps community, while at the same time earning volunteer hours and valuable experience with one of Canada’s leading arts and cultural institutions. Under the mentorship of Harbourfront Centre staff members, youth volunteers take part in a 2-hour virtual session each week over Zoom where they engage in icebreaker activities, learn about a specific topic related to recreational programming, and have a chance to collaborate and develop their own projects.

Harbourfront Centre is a registered, charitable not-for-profit cultural organization operating a 10-acre campus on Toronto’s central waterfront. A leading international centre for contemporary arts, culture, and ideas, we inspire audiences and visitors with a breadth of bold, ambitious and engaging experiences.

The sessions cover a variety of topics including considerations for different ages and stages of child development, best practices in children’s programming, and how to plan for accommodations and modifications. Youth volunteers have time within each session to work on their online programs, which they can choose to create individually, in pairs, or in small groups. In the last session, they have a chance to virtually present their projects to each other and members of Harbourfront Centre’s Education team.
